Peak Organic Brewing Company (Portland, ME) was the brewery of the week at Magruder’s , so I stopped in for the tasting on my way home from work on November 13. I tasted (pictured from left to right):
- Amber Ale – “A lively ale that starts sweet and has a subtle toasted character.”
- Nut Brown Ale – “Designed to start extremely smooth, then finish with a crisp, distinctive nutty finish.”
- Pale Ale – “A complex hybrid between a West-Coast Pale Ale and a British-Style Pale Ale.”
I don’t know if these beers are as lively, smooth, and complex as the descriptions from the brewery web site claim. But I do know these are solid, well built beers brewed with organic ingredients…not a bad combination. So I brought home a mixed case.
I wished they were pouring samples of their more unusual brews: Pomegranate Wheat Ale with Acai and Espresso Amber Ale. I’ve had both and they are excellent beers.
