I first saw Sam Adams Alpine Spring in the beer store in early January. I love Sam Adams brews, but January was too soon for the transition to the lighter beers of summer, no matter how mild the winter has been here in DC. Leap Day, on the other hand, is the perfect time to make the switch. Good-bye February and winter, hello March and the inevitable warmer weather!
Alpine Spring is sold by the six-pack, but I tried it in the Sam Adams Brewer’s Choice mixed 12-pack. Sold from January to March, this mix is perfect for the early spring season, and it includes three new Sam Adams beers. The line-up:
- Boston Lager
- Irish Red
- Black Lager
- Alpine Spring (new)
- Mighty Oak Ale (new)
- Whitewater IPA (new)
Alpine Springs is a citrusy, unfiltered lager. I’m looking forward to buying six-packs of this one.
Mighty Oak Ale is “a smooth amber ale with distinct notes of oak, vanilla and caramel. Not too heavy, not too light, and great for those first days of spring weather.”
Whitewater IPA is a “hybrid of a hoppy IPA and a spicy white ale” with a “balance of American hops, apricots, and a crisp wheat character.” Whitewater IPA was my favorite beer of the 12-pack.
My fridge will be stocked with the Sam Adams Brewer’s Choice 12-pack this spring. It’s the perfect mixed 12-pack for March Madness!
