I love the beer events at Gordon Biersch Rockville! From the beer dinners to the beer tappings, Brewmaster Christian Layke’s events are not to be missed! I attended two October events — a BBQ beer lunch featuring smoked beers and a Session IPA tapping party.
Backyard BBQ and Beer Event, October 12
The Food:
Delicious slow-roasted pulled pork BBQ braised overnight in smoke beer, served with corn bread, coleslaw, baked mac and cheese, collard greens, and warm apple crisp a la mode for dessert.
The Beers:
Bourbon Barrel-Aged Blonde
Bourbon Barrel-Aged Porter
Rauchbier (Smoked Märzen)
Grätzer
Festbier
Christian poured an incredible line-up, highlighted by the Rauchbier, a Gold Medal-winning beer brewed by the Gordon Biersch in Annapolis. The Bourbon Barrel-Aged beers were strong and complex. The Grätzer, a historic Polish-style beer brewed with oak-smoked wheat malt, was crisp and refreshing.
Session IPA Tapping Party, October 29
According to Christian, his Session IPA is “hoppy and delicious — dry hopped with Citra and Chinook, there is a blast of hoppy goodness in every glass.” Christian also tapped a double-dry-hopped version of this IPA, which was brewed with locally grown Cascade hops from Owl Farm in Poolesville, MD and served from a firkin.
This Session IPA isn’t as sessionable as most Session IPAs at 5.3% ABV, but it sure is delicious!
