I stocked up the last time I went to Total Wine and More in McLean, Virginia because I needed beer for our annual Memorial Day Weekend camping trip. One of my finds was the Pack of Pales from Southern Tier Brewing Company.
The 12-pack variety Pack of Pales included:
- Phin & Matt’s Extraordinary Ale, a classic American style Pale Ale. This is the first Southern Tier beer that I ever tried and it’s still my favorite from the brewery. This flavorful Pale Ale is highly recommended. (5.4%)
- IPA, an IPA for fans of IPAs – citrusy hops, excellent bitterness, and a pleasant malt finish. (6.9%)
- Pale Ale, according to Southern Tier, this Pale Ale is “aggressively hopped, with immense overtones of grapefruit and tangerine.” Well, yeah! (6.0%)
- 422 Pale Wheat Ale, a refreshing, drinkable Wheat that provided a nice change of pace from the hoppy brews in the mixed 12-pack. (5.8%)
I discovered Southern Tier years ago during my trips to New England, and I’m thrilled to see the beer now available in Virginia. The Lakewood, New York-based brewery is one of the lesser-known gems in the craft beer world, but with offerings like these, Southern Tier won’t be under-appreciated for long. I’ve got to pick up another Pack of Pales!
