The Vacation Continues at Home (New England Beer Vacation Epilogue)

21st Amendment Cans

21st Amendment Cans

Summer vacation may be over, but my beer vacation continues!  I haven’t been to the beer store since we got back to Maryland, because I brought back so much good beer from New England (drank August 3-12).  I’ll highlight a few brews here…

A few weeks ago I blogged about craft beer in a can.  I mentioned that the 21st Amendment brew pub in San Francisco, California canned their beer, and I’ve been on the lookout for it.  I found some at Colonial Spirits and bought six packs of:

  • Brew Free!  Or Die IPA, an excellent IPA checking in a 7.0% ABV and 70 IBU
  • Hell or High Watermelon Wheat Beer, a refreshing ale that undergoes a secondary fermentation using fresh watermelon for a watermelon aroma and flavor

I wish more craft brewers canned their beer — I would have had room to bring back twice as much from vacation!

I also brought home Wachusett Brewing Company’s Box of Brew (Westminster, MA).  This 12 pack mix includes:

  • Blueberry Ale
  • Country Ale, a Pale Ale
  • Green Monsta Ale, a big Pale Ale just for Red Sox fans (7.3%)
  • Ryde Beer, a Rye beer only available in the mix pack

All of these beers are decent, and I just love it when a brewery offers a 12 pack mix so you can get taste for several of their beers in the convenience of a 12-pack box.  If only they were in cans…

The final tally from my New England Beer Vacation:
47 different beers tasted from 20 different breweries;
one brewery and two brewpubs visited.
