I added a new Maryland brewery to my collection with my recent visit to Antietam Brewery in Hagerstown, Maryland.
We squeezed in one final camping trip of the season in late October, enjoying Howl-a-Ween Weekend at Jellystone Park outside of Hagerstown. We spent a lot of time at the campground having fun with Halloween activities, but we also found time to get away and explore the area. After a morning of shopping at the Hagerstown Outlet Mall, we were ready for lunch, so we moseyed over to Benny’s Pub, home of Antietam Brewery.
What a find! The pub is in a nondescript strip mall, but the interior is cozy and inviting. It is foremost a pub, with a large bar area as you walk in. But the servers assured us that Benny’s is family-friendly through dinner, before the the live music starts and the beer really starts flowing.
Before I get to the beer, let me rave about the food. I love pub grub and Benny’s has it all, including specialty house sandwiches. I had “The Benski” — Roast beef and cheddar topped with bacon, tomato, fries, and horseradish bbq sauce on a Kaiser roll. This was after we shared a the starter sampler platter, which came with fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, and tater tots. Yeah, Benny’s has some pub grub alright!
For beer, I ordered the sampler, which came with six house beers:
After my sampler, I had a pint of Kelley’s Red River IRA, a tasty India Rye Ale. Our only regret — we failed to bring a growler for beer to go.
Here are a few more pics from Benny’s and Antietam Brewery…
